Lionsgate on Hunt for Mockingjay Directors?

As you likely recall, Lionsgate recently announced the release dates for Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. With these dates approaching shortly following Catching Fire and each other, they are likely to need new directors for the films. According to Indiewire, Lionsgate is already searching for these directors.

New Lionsgate movie chiefs, Summit’s Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, producers Nina Jacobson and author Suzanne Collins are currently vetting the right directors for the last two “Mockingjay” films, which are also hurtling into production (for release November 2014 and 2015), too fast for Francis Lawrence to be in charge.

With all of this news coming in, it’s hard to even think about Mockingjay right now! But it sounds like Lionsgate is thinking ahead.

It is entirely possible if the films shoot back to back that one director could take on both of the last two films, but this will depend on the shooting schedule they are able to work out as well as other factors. For now, we’ll have to wait on official word on the Mockingjay plan.

In the meantime, how would you feel about each movie having a new director? Or are you hoping one might be able to fit the bill?
